How does an airport car service pickup work?
Most companies offer two options. With meet and greet, the chauffeur waits in baggage claim with a name sign. With curbside, you text when you have your bags and the car pulls up at the ground transportation curb. Each airport sets its own rules, so confirm where to meet.
Should I give the car service my flight number?
Yes. With your flight number, the company can track delays and adjust the pickup time without you calling. Ask if flight tracking is included.
How much wait time is included at the airport?
Typically 30 to 60 minutes after landing for domestic flights and 60 to 90 minutes for international flights. After that, wait time is usually billed. Ask before you book.
How early should I schedule my ride to the airport?
Plan to arrive 2 hours before a domestic flight and 3 hours before an international flight, then add the drive time and a traffic cushion. Your company can suggest a pickup time.
Do I tip an airport car service?
Many quotes already include a gratuity of 15 to 20%. Check your confirmation. If it's not included, 15 to 20% is standard, and extra is common if the driver handled heavy luggage.
Is a car service better than a rideshare at the airport?
A car service costs more, but you get a confirmed car, a set price, flight tracking and room for luggage, with no surge pricing. It's worth it for early flights, groups, business trips and late-night arrivals.
Does the company need an airport permit?
At many airports, yes. Commercial vehicles that pick up passengers often need an airport permit or decal. Our city pages show where we could confirm one, for example on the San Francisco page
using SFO's public permit list.
What should I do if my driver isn't there?
Call the dispatch number on your confirmation, not the driver's personal phone. Good companies answer 24/7. Save the number before you fly.
